Tufted

Via
Tufting dates back to the 17th century.  When I was growing up, it was meant to look formal.  But tufting has come back with a vintage bang and I'm loving it.

These next two prove that patterns work with tufting.

Wouldn't you love to snag a vintage one like this?

  3. Interesting--gorgeous photos! It reminds me of "re-tufting" my porch cushions after I washed the fabric. It took two of us, but I learned a lot!

  4. What a lovely collection of pictures! I tufted an ottoman that I made a few years ago and getting the tufting spaced evenly was so hard. I have such a respect for the upholsterers who can make those fabulous headboards and sofas. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Tufting has always been an elegant way to cover things. My mil was an upholsterer and I helped her. She created some beautiful designs using tufting.

  6. Tufting is so rich isn't it? Anything tufted goes to the next level in elegance~you have some great examples here. And some of the wall treatments are incredible.

  7. Here in San Diego at our one of the Crate and Barrel stores they had a ice lilac head board that was tufted with grey accents accented with mirrored side tables and cozy bed linens that looked like something out of a 1940s Hollywood movie. It was stunning.

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. I love tufting and one of my daughters has a tall tufted headboard... in a bedroom, the tufting in/around the bed softens the looks and dampens the sound. That rug in the first sofa photo is fab!

    Have a wonderful week!

  13. Hello my friend,
I LOVE the pink tufted headboard and foot-board! Tufted is definitely back in, I remember the 70's when it was in, I wish I did have that green one, what a nice feel that would give a room.
    Gorgeous images, all of them!

  14. That indeed is a gorgeous look. We almost bought a tuft back leather couch, it was gorgeous, in fact you can look it up on restoration hardware..well anyhow, it was so uncomfortable we could not bare the feeling. Now I would love a headboard like that!

  19. I love the look of tufting. It reminds me of my Grandfather, who was a gifted custom upholsterer. He did the most lovely tufting on his pieces. Thank you for showing all the beautiful examples of this fine work. Terri

  21. I left you a comment under Beatrice Banks. A story so graceful and full of humility, it made me cry. I am soooooo very thankful I took the time to read it.
My Grandmother Minnie had a beautiful velvet, white, tufted headboard and a bright red tufted chair that accomdated her short legs. Only one time my cousin and me were allowed to sleep in her bed and we felt like royalty.
On that glorious green velvet tufted VINTAGE headboard, you could recreate one with those end corners being the hardest part and if you just happened to be at an estate sale that had green velvet big drapes...that is kinda like the the show on HGTV where they see a designer room for 15,000.00 dollars and up and they recreate the room for 3,000.00 or less...then the designer of the showroom comes to their room and tells them how they did, both good and bad...that would be a fun job.
Looking forward to our friendship growing.

  27. I have always loved tufting, I saw a white tufted rounded sofa at our local thrift shop for 75.00 but thought about it and went back the next day and it was gone, it was not dirty but the shade or texture was not perfect and I had to think about it.......someone else snatched it up...... I am going to tuft my ottoman that I am building and I will see how hard it is.

  39. These were so much fun to look at - not sure which one is my favorite. Years ago I took an upholstery class and my first project was to recover a chair of my grandmothers which had 50 tufts - what was I thinking! Anyway, I enjoyed your post so very much. Thank you for stopping by to say hello.
