Horsing Around
No secret that I love the equestrian style. I'm working on my little foyer which is merely a pass through to the dining and living rooms so I want it to flow with the style. Other than purchasing a mirror, I didn't plan anything. Never do. My decorating usually just happens. That's out of necessity, not because I can't dream something up.
I stumbled upon these two art prints at a yard sale. Can't remember if I paid $10 or $15 each but figured the frames alone were worth that.
I like how they are kind of beat up.
I actually passed these up but couldn't get them off my mind so returned later in the day to get them, and surprise! They were still there. The reason I almost walked away is because I didn't have a clue where they would fit. Not to mention our upcoming move. But when I went back and read about the artist, I knew it was meant to be.
Joseph Petro was a medical illustrator. He graduated from Cincinnati College of Medicine. I might put these in Doc's office some day.
I have no idea if they are worth a lot. The names of the prints are Bay Plate I and Chestnut Plate II. The backings say, "... certified to be one print of 5,000 and checked and autographed by the artist."
Maybe one of you have heard of this artist?
I am making them fit in my foyer. Sometimes we just have to make things fit.
The reason I'm not showing my foyer yet is because... see that light fixture right up there? I'm trying to convince my hubs that the house would sell better if we installed it in the foyer.
Actually, I'm not totally convinced myself that it would help. What do you think? Would an outdated fixture kill the sale of a house? Or better yet, do you think I would get the total bang for my buck?
Tammy, what a great find! It's like it was truly meant to be! Funny how things work out sometimes. As for the light fixture, it's great! All of the "pros" say that you should update your fixtures when selling. Not sure that it would kill the sale, though.

ReplyDeleteI'd change out the fixture, but only if you find a great deal. I think fixtures can make a huge difference in updating the house and helping it sell.

ReplyDeleteGreat find! Love the story behind the prints, too. It wouldn't hurt to try the light fixture in the foyer. You can always switch it back if you don't like it.

Oh my those equestrian prints are just gorgeous. I love an equestrian theme, so classic. Hum, not sure if I would change the fixture or not. If it is really bad maybe, if not then no leave it to someone else's taste.

Wonderful pictures! I'm not sure about a new fixture--it is the first thing a prospective buyer would see so it would give an overall impression about the house ---on the other hand if its too unusual the buyer may just replace it anyway. But it would make you smile as you go through the next months so maybe you should!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your new horse prints. Never heard of the artist before. I love the light, but not sure I would add new things to sale. Around here we can't even get anywhere what we would want for the house. Our appraisal for refinancing recently was horrible. Made me sick.

ReplyDeleteAs for the light fixture. I don't know that adding things makes a difference when selling a home. I like to put my own touches on a home, so for me, it wouldn't matter. I'd most likely install a fixture of my own choosing. That's just me. I know a lot of people want someone else to do it all. ;-)

ReplyDeleteThere is a room in my house which is basically mine. It's like an office/den. In need of a complete re-do that will happen in the next year or two, I will consider the equestrian theme now that I've seen it here and within your other posts. Since I started taking horseback riding lessons three years ago, I love everything horses! It would be pleasant to look at as I sit at my desk doing whatever. You'll get credit if it happens. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for your light fixture, I think it will make your house memorable if it is in the foyer, where or not the potential buyer likes it there or not. They'll know that it can be switched out if they don't want it. That's how I would feel. :)
As people are looking at your house, they add up all the things they don't like or want to change. I've heard that some buyers take that figure right off the top of their offer. Either way, you will probably be paying for a new light so you might as well enjoy it for a few months while your selling! Love your horses.
ReplyDeleteI love the light fixture, if it is too pricey, you might find something like it to update the house. Light fixtures are so big in the feel of a home. I think u can check to see if that is a listed artist somewhere~

I visualize the prints that you purchased in a black frame with a blue mat.
I wouldn't invest a large sum of money in a house that I was selling. How about going to Lowe's
or Home Depot and looking at their mark down section. You could also look on craigslist.
