Sweet MemoriesTake Me Away

Via
It's been one of those weeks. I need an escape. Something like a long warm bath in a clawfoot tub. The one above would be nice and pretty. But today I'm thinking along the lines of my grandmother Beatrice's tub.
Maybe more like this.
Via
When visiting grandmother's county cottage, this little city girl would run through the yard, pick flowers, play in the dirt and dance on the clapboard porch until I was exhausted. Then my sweet grandmother would "draw up" my bathwater in her big clawfoot tub.
Via

It felt ginormous. I could barely see over the top of the tub.
Via
When bath time was done, she would fix a special treat of neopolitan ice cream. It came in a box. Do you remember those?
Via
Then we would climb in bed. She'd tell a story and the last sound I remembered was the hum of the box fan which sat in the window.

I could really use one of those days.

We had a claw foot tub when I was growing up but the bathroom wasn't so romantic looking as these photos. :) And I do remember ice cream in bricks! Sweet memories.

Loved these images, Tammy. I know you were focusing on the tubs but those weathered blue boards are just amazing. Love the "atmosphere" of all these pics.

Sweet memories! I enjoyed imagining your special time...it also made me think of my Grandmother too...she had a big porcelain tub like that as well. And a drain plug with a long chain on it. The ice cream memory was like "the icing on the cake!"

All little girls should have a memories like yours to cherish.

Hey, I remember those boxes of ice cream! Now you're making ME feel old! I can't get enough of those claw foot tubs. I wish my husband thought the same way, oh well!

Ah, grandma's they are the best. I always loved sleeping on my Nana's sleeping porch. Fully enclosed with those slate windows open to a tilt and when it rained and it was cool, you could snuggle under the covers and sleep with sweet, sweet dreams!! My favorite place in the world!

Oh yes. I had nearly forgotten ice cream in a box. So easy for slicing and serving. My grandmother also had a claw foot tub and I had many a nice bath with lots of bubbles when I was a little girl. I would think of those times when, many years later, I was making sure that my grandmother had a nice bath or shower. A great gathering of photos to complement your post.

I could use one of those days too, Tammy. And yes, I remember neapolitan ice cream very well. It was typical in our home.

Much love!

Oh those memories that you conjured up for me. Our favorite was Neapolitan Ice Cream but we called it Napoleon because it was funny. Such good memories.

I love a good soak but our tub is woefully small. Someday I would love a nice deep one.

You brought back great memories to me also! My grandma had one of those tubs and I lived with her for a summer while I was pregnant, it was a summer where we had a heat wave, imagine in Texas, anyway I would fill the tub with cool water and sit in it all day, it was heaven!

Hello my dear Tammy,
I love those old tubs, I only have one memory of taking a bath in a tub like that. It was the only time my mom and dad left my siblings and I at a friends place for the night. I think she was going in to hospital to have my youngest brother, I remember hurting inside so badly, I missed them so much. I must have told Sis. Ralston, because she filled up their old tub like that and told my little sister and I to climb in, it was huge and almost full to the top. I had never had a bath with that much water in it before. I would have been almost seven years old and I could barely see over the top of it when sitting in it. What a sweet memory.
I love your memory about what you did when you went to see your grandma. Sounds like you had a good granny.
Have a good day.
Love and hugs, Cindy

Oh Tammy. I wish you could relax in one of those tubs and eat "box" ice cream. I also have those memories of neopolitan ice cream in a box. Back then there were so few flavors to choose from but each one was wonderful.

Oh yes. A tub soak followed by ice cream. With sprinkles. :)

Lovely. Gorgeous. Precious.

My grandmother has a ball and claw foot tub too and my sister and I would soak in it. I remember not being able to see over the top too!

Forgot about that.

She used to fill big old galvanized farm tubs full of water for us and put them in the yard as little swimming pools in the summer under the weeping willow tree for us to cool off.

She had five granddaughters and no grandsons at that time and we all lived next to her on the farm.

Oh the memories!
Thanks for taking me back today, Tammy!

I do remember the neapolitan ice cream. It was always a favorite because it had strawberry in between the chocolate and vanilla. And the thought of a nice deep tub for soaking makes my heart skip a beat. Beautiful images!
Hope you get your little escape, and good luck on selling your house. ~ Sarah

Tammy, I'm waaaay behind on visiting while I play with Little Man and wait (and wait, and wait) on his little brother to arrive, but I'm glad I didn't miss this post. I don't have any fabulous clawfoot tub memories like you do, but I hope I'm giving them to my grandchildren. When we renovated our old house, we kept the original tub in the guest bath, and I love it!

I hope your week is going better for you and that you have a wonderful celebration of our risen Lord! Happy Easter!

Tammy, I remember very similar memories of her, the big clawfoot tub, and the big box fan in the window. In fact, many times when I lie down at night with troubles on my mind, I think of the big box fan and feel comforted. That picture with the blue walls does look so much like hers did. Thank you for sharing these sweet, sweet memories!

What's really good is epsom salt baths or baking soda baths. I am addicted to both. They feel so good and are really good for you.
