So the votes are in on black vs white. The big majority says leave the doors and mantel white. I suppose people are just not into painting things black now because white is so popular. And rightly so. White woodwork does look brighter and cleaner. Although, who could argue this beauty?
And there's something to be said about all of the doors being painted black these days.
When I look at these, I still go weak in the knees.
Some of my dream rooms are actually a mix of the two-
black and white, where the use of either color is always right.
Perhaps that is why black and white is so timeless.

My vote would have been for black door and white mantel (unless you were going to stay there, then I would say paint the mantel black also) =)
All of these rooms are just soooo yummy!!
But my fav is the last pic, that chandy is just magnificent :)

You can never go wrong with black and white. It is truly one of my favorite color combinations!
It is just that timeless and black is the best accent color there is. Love all the bold beauty here this morning! ;D

Your black and white mix looks awesome! Loved it.

I'm not a big fan of black, but I have to say it looks great in all these images. Maybe white is over rated.

I know, you could do a black door and leave the mantel white!!
I like color and am so over seeing white all over the place. I like the idea of the two mixed.
I do adore the second fireplace and love the entry! I suppose it is all a matter of taste, or, it could very well be the trend!
I always opt to go with what feels right to me and this does it for me! Hugs!
So I'm not sure what you have decided. I do love those black fireplaces. And I never thought of a black door though I wonder about letting less light in--it would just make you feel that way but it really would be letting in the same light I would think. I'm sure whatever you decide it will be great you have such a knack, I can tell, for decorating. It's just too bad you aren't going to be living in it!
My vote...paint them black! I love, love, love black doors.Audrey
I say mix it up. Maybe do one black and the other white, it does look beautiful. I love white because it is so bright and clean but I love black because it is so classic and dramatic. I am in love with that first photo too, oh to have a dutch door!!
Enjoy your weekend!!

Such great shots. I love the first and forth shot. The mix of cabinets colors is so pretty. And what a great big lantern!
I'm thinking you really, really need/want a black mantel. :) Next house, or if you stay put.... paint, paint, paint. It's you.
Very classy looking rooms I must say... crisp and clear.
I haven't thought of painting a door black before, but I like the black doors in your photos. Striking! I'd choose a white mantel with the black accents like the way you did your stair railing and risers for instance - gorgeous. I agree with Loui: "keep it simple, neutral, and appealing...less stress."
Decisions, decisions .... Although it isn't "me," I do love classic blacks and whites.
I once read from an article of a home I loved in a magazine that every room should have one black piece in it as an anchor. I agree though I don't have any in my house yet. Does that make me a hyprocrite?
Beatrice, I am such a big fan for black and white. The pictures you posted are wonderful. Love the first one. It is one of my favorite entry's.
Dearest Tammy,
I love all of the black and white examples you have given us, they are SO gorgeous!!! Personally I could live with any one of those rooms and you probably could too, from the sounds of it. One day, in your forever home, you can do that, I hope!
Love and hugs, Cindy
Paint the black...love all this inspiration!
Debbie
I really love black and white. especially French ticking. Think I am going that direction in my living room for the winter.
I have used black and white as a base for my home for over 40 years. It can be tricky to incorporate it when using other colors, but when done right it is perfection in my book. I have a black and white marble floor in my entry and guest bath and I use Spring colors and it works for me!! Love B&W!! kathysue
