Read Between The Lines

Via
A good spouse will read between the lines. It's the unspoken that holds the key to our hearts isn't it?

Via
Some time last year, I scribbled down a long list of a blogger's recommended design books. (Sorry I can't remember the source.) I'd love to start a collection. For an awesome list and reviews currently posted, check out Amy's recommendations at Maison Decor.

These are 3 on my list of many.
Style and Substance- The Best of Elle Decor by Margaret Russell
Home Rules by Nate Berkus
French Essence by Vicki Archer

Somehow in all of the clutter on my desk, the doc found the list. He chose the above 3 to give to me for Christmas. Yay!  Maybe I should leave more lists lying around.

I love the smell of crisp pages opened up for the first time. Photos of beautiful design are like pure candy to me!
These are some of the images in this book.

And from French Essence-
Somehow my stacked books and papers never look this artistic.

I once heard a man say he studied his wife like a book and after 40 years of marriage felt he hadn't even graduated college yet. Paying attention to little details, like comments made in passing or scribbled lists, is one of the best ways to "study" our mates, our children and friends.
One of my goals this year is to hear the unspoken from those I love.

Way to go, Doc! Tammy, you've been given some great new inspiration, haven't you? Thanks for the reminder to pay attention to the little things. Great advice!

What a sweet post Tammy and so thoughtful of your hubby. I believe that it is between the lines that we find out the most of ourselves and others. Enjoy reading, they look beautiful.

What a sweetie, I know Mr RGV keeps a list on his phone when he hears me mention something, but usually I have to drop pretty big hints:-)

I love love this post and I have to borrow your phrase, " To hear the unspoken from those I love!" That is so true and after 42 years of marriage to my sweetheart of 46 years, it is a wonderful quality to have in a marriage, he hears me, even if I don't speak!! It sounds as if yours does too,

wonderful, wonderful post for the new year and outstanding photo of "between the lines." I just heard a quote from whom I don't remember or the details of it but it went something like he had all the study and degrees he could amass but the one thing he could never learn was to understand a woman! I didn't think we were that complex but this post would give him an idea of how to pursue!

What a wonderful husband! But then you must be a wonderful wife to be so interesting as to deserve his "reading between the lines". A perfect match!!

The doc has taken a few ideas from the decorating world, I see; paying attention to the "details." I love how you told this story. :) It seems that 2011 ended on a good note for you. May your 2012 be blessed beyond expectations. Happy New Year.

just found you via karena's blog. look forward to getting to know you and your blog. so much inspiration to be found in books. i love that stack of newspapers on the velvet bench,so wrong and so right at the same time. when things are too neat and perfect it just doesn't feel like a home to me.
