Animal Print Will Be Around Forever

I don't think animal print is going anywhere, do you?  It makes a statement in a room.  Not overdone, of course, but a hint here and there adds pizazz to any room.  My newest, absolute favorite is a quartz surface with a textured look in croc. I probably wouldn't use it on an entire kitchen, but a guest bath counter top would look snazzy. Here it is on a wall-

Speaking of baths, I like the way designer Joe Minton mixes in a little "wild thing" in his design.

Here's a larger living space that is mostly white but definitely not boring when zebra prints are added.

Forget what I said about overdoing it.  I don't think Mary McDonald needs our permission..

Anyway you slice it, animal print is delicious!

Autumn Moments

Remembering where we were this time last year.  My very own house, the Brownsfield.  Sweet memories.

A little bird nest in one of our trees.

My little Indian.
My sweet neighbor's house.
Leaves are falling to the ground and soon autumn will be over.  Today I'd just like to soak up the colors and bask in the moments.

Thanksgiving Craft For Kids

Don't you love when a homework project is sent home?  What that really means is, YOU, my dear, have homework.  My pre-K son came home with this one.  I used it myself when teaching kindergarten.  (It's alright to assign a project when it's cute.)

There never seems to be much to do for kids on Thanksgiving Day. Why not pull out a craft? This would be a great one for the kids who come to your Thanksgiving Dinner.

"A Turkey in Disguise"

Objecitve:  Make a costume for Mr. Turkey. He wants to disguise himself so he's not eaten on Thanksgiving.

1.Start with a simple outline of a turkey.  I like using card stock for thickness.
 2.  Have an assortment of crafts.  Hobby Lobby had Christmas crafts 50% off last week. Maybe they'll do it again.

3.  Make patterns for costume to be cut out on felt. As soon as the word "costume" was mentioned, Prince O shouted "Batman!"  Too late.  Mom already bought Santa stuff.
4.  Dress him up anyway you like. We used white feathers instead of fur assuming Mr. Turkey bleached some of his own.  The plan was to put cotton on the beard but this turkey pattern was too small. My rule of thumb- the younger the crowd, the larger the pattern.

5.  Be clever. We decided to leave Mr. Turkey's feet showing so there's still a hint of his identity. And the sign he's carrying might just be another clue!

Have prizes for the most creative, funniest, etc.  Maybe the winner could get a Chick Fil A gift card!
Happy Thanksgiving Crafting!

A Winner

The day is here.  Time for the giveaway.  We have professional style drawings around here.  It was fun and saved us $5 to not use the computer version.  Here's how it's done.

1.  Put names in a hat.
2.  Appoint a handsome Master of Drawing.
3.  Give the names a good stir.
 4.  Close eyes and pick.
 5.  Point to the lucky winner.

6.  Repeat step 5 by having big brother grab it from you to show how to point correctly. (note to self- make sure kids' fingernails are clean before taking a close up.)

And the winner is...Yvonne at Stonegable!  I can't think of a sweeter person to win. I think she's been following me since I first started blogging.  She's an extraordinaire photographer, chef and decorator.  Love her blog!  Congratulations Yvonne!
I wish I could give each of you a gift.  I love giving and I love my blogging friends.  Appreciate all who followed me from A Doctor in the House.  Beatrice Bank is currently at 1/2 of the following but I'm encouraged because it's only been up a week.  It was puzzling when some whom I thought were good friends didn't follow me over.  But I'm not crying over it because I've made so many wonderful new friends. That's how life is in general.  Every time I move (which has been plenty,) some friends are left behind, new friends are made along the way and true friends hang around forever. I'm grateful for ALL of my friends today.  I guess I really do have a gift for everyone today, my friendship. Thanks for hanging around!

Numb3rs/Last Chance for Giveaway

Look at the numbers on those plates!  Isn't this space just divine? All those bold graphics paired with the simple numbered plates.   Really gets your attention. (created by Mary McDonald)
I realize most people are so over numbers by now but I was a little slower boarding the train.  B says, "Always wait to buy. It's cheaper. While you may not be the first on the block, you'll save money and get more bang for your buck."
Who doesn't have these Target plates and canisters? Me.  Passed them up over and over.  Bingo. $3 and $4 for the canisters.

The 3 is missing.  Yeah, but $7 allowed me to buy the $1 plates in addition, which I promptly hung in my little tiny itsy bitsy hallway.
There's no easy way to take pictures in such a small space. But you get the idea.
It's the Borrowed House. So let me just say, the brass doorknobs would be the first to go if possible. Then there's the unsightly wall plates. Gotta have them but at least blend them with the wall.
Cheap and cute.  Where numbers really count.

Hey, don't forget the giveaway!  Winner will be announced this Saturday! Good luck!

"Lovely Is Engaged" and Another Chance to Win Giveaway

Remember my chair I showed you yesterday?  Well, the little lovely has found her husband.  Unfortunately, I did not see him at GW today.  But I'll keep looking.  (The Doc would love to prop his feet up on that ottoman.)

The Chair That Almost Got Away

Don't forget about the great giveaway. It ends Friday. Go HERE to enter.

My inspiration chair is found at French Dressing for $1095.  B. would never pay that much for a chair. Not even half.

Fast forward to a GW jaunt. Behold, there's a sweet little barrel chair.  I circled the store, stalking it at least 3 times.  The price tag shouted, "I'm only $15!"  I don't need a chair right now.  Borrowed House has furniture stacked in the garage. yada yada

Brain overrules heart.

That evening, I told Doc about it and he asked, "Why didn't you buy it?". He always wants me to have what I want.  (One of the reasons I love him so.)   At that moment, I became a lovesick girl all over a chair.  Do you ever get that "knot in your stomach, just passed up a steal"  kind of feeling?

Call me silly but the next morning, I prayed like this. "Lord, I don't need that chair.  You don't owe it to me but it'd be alright if the chair is still there. If not, I'm still grateful and will not be upset."  Disappointment preparation.  There was no way a $15 antique chair, in decent shape, was still going to be sitting in GW 24 hours later.

I could not get there fast enough brushing past all the shopping carts and people, all the way to the furniture section in back.  At first, I didn't see it.  But there on the last row, sat this little lovely, just waiting on me.
I jumped and screamed browsed a little more before casually making my way to the register.
"I want a chair in the back."
"The only way I can hold that chair is if you pay for it."
"Okay. I'm ready."
"I have to go see how much it is."
Seemingly out of nowhere there were a huddle of people standing around the chair.
"I'm sorry.  It's already sold."
awww..music to my ears.  Those words can make or break your day.

When the reciept was put in my hand, I felt God smile and wink at me. He's cool like that.
After scrubbing the fabric, I was pleased. It's really in good shape.

I know all you white spray paint people are having fits for me to cottage-fy it, but I'm really liking the soft blue and french vibe. No place for it now, but it'll go in my future larger master bedroom.  Going for a french antique/beach style.
