Trick or Treat

Are you going trick or treating tonight or staying home to pass out candy?

This is one of my favorite treats to give friends and neighbors.
2 cups of peanuts and 2 cups of candy corn mixed. So easy!

I have fond memories of trick or treating as a child.  I think we had bags just like those in the above picture.
Remember when-
we were not afraid to go trick or treating just about anywhere?
the scariest costume we had was a white sheet with 2 eye holes?
plastic masks which hurt if the string was too tight?
barely being able to breathe through all that plastic?
sticking out your tongue through the plastic hole? (ouch, sometimes sharp edges)
people giving away unwrapped things like carmel apples or popcorn balls?
the end of safe trick or treating when hearing of a razor blade in an apple?

Our neighborhood is rated in the top 10 safest in our city but of course, we still check all the candy before eating it.
Expecting tons of trick or treaters. I've already spent $30 on candy and am thinking I need to buy more.

Update-
Good news is our computer savvy friend retrieved all of our photos from our crashed computer! Hopefully we'll never have that scare again.
Mrs. T and I didn't complete decorating her house. Several of her fabrics did not arrive.  Will post pictures when it all comes together.

When the boys get home from school today we will carve out a jack-o-lantern to light up the porch for our little guests. I always enjoy seeing all the cute costumes.  At the end of the night I will go through my boys' bags and take out all the chocolate. Lucky me! They don't like chocolate.

Happy Halloween!

I remember the plastic masks. They were sweaty and you couldn't breathe. Or see. My Mom always made me pull it up over my head when we crossed the streets. Have a great Halloween with the boys.

Sounds like a fun evening at your house! And thanks for the memories. The vintage photo seems to be more like I remember, particularly how large the candy bars used to be! I think sometimes we just carried around a pillow case in order to have plenty of room. Sadly very few kids in our neighborhood right now and they mostly go to a party at friends' houses or churches, so we don't even buy candy any more. Your candy corn mix looks sweet!

Oh, definitely I will be giving out treats. I'm like you, thinking there's not enough candy. Already went out and bought more. Now I don't even know if we'll HAVE trick or treating since we were hit with a huge snowstorm Friday night.

Anyway, thanks for the memories. I fondly remember all the Halloweens of my childhood. Take care and have a fun day! Susan

I do remember all those things from the past. Our costumes were probably 40 years old and we wore Lone Ranger type eye masks. LOL I love candy corn and peanuts together. Salty sweet. YUM. Have a great day!

Our children are grown so my husband and I are staying home tonight and passing out/eating the goodies. ;) Of course, our children still dress up though and head out to house parties so that's always fun to watch in the making.
LOVE the jar of candy corn and peanuts. I'm headed over to my kitchen to make a jar of pumpkin spice sugar rub. Such a fun day, isn't it.
Happy Halloween, Tammy!

Have a really fun evening. Our trick or treat was last Thurs. So wierd. We never do it on the real Halloween. The nut/candy corn idea sounds like I could probably eat a whole jar! Yum.

I love the excitement of the children on this very fun night! My little guys {students} were over the top all day ~ they could hardly wait to hit the sidewalks tonight.

Tomorrow will be a major sugar high :)

I love the trick or treating ritual. My kids still go (the oldest is twenty so she just walks along) but she helps my youngest. They love it. I think it is one night where even the big kids and just be kids and get some candy.

Our trick or treat was on Saturday, my favorite holiday spent 2 days before.... I passed out candy with my daughter while my son went out with friends. I spent almost 70 dollars on candy. Half of it went in a pinata for my son's Halloween party though.
