Louis Chairs

I love chairs. If I bought every chair I loved, my house could not contain them.  But some are worth making room for.

These two Louis XVI chairs have moved from room to room in every house I've owned for the past 13 years.

I was fortunate to find them at an estate auction for $40 each. They are in the exact great condition I found them. To this day, I still love the fabric and details.

They have a formal look and are probably not the most comfy to sit on so I usually put them in a welcoming area or a spill over space for guests.

To keep them from being too serious, I added the circles pillows and modern sphere lamp from Target, the wrought iron tables with heavy glass from a yard sale, vintage books from Goodwill, and bookends and a vase from Marshall's.

The difference between a Louis XV and Louis XVI chair is the shape of the legs. XV legs are curved while XVI are straight. You probably already knew this but, if you'd like to read a little history, go to this neat blog, I Dream Of ChairsLa Dolce Vita has a great summary on the chairs as well.

And I do love them.

I saw some ghost chairs at Tuesday Mornings a couple of weeks ago for about $100 each. I'm sure that was an excellent deal but I had to keep walking.

I loved this post! I spent about 2 hours online last night searching for the perfect Louis XVI chair. I saw one on Pinterest, and I am on a mission to find it!! I might have to post a picture of it, and see if anyone knows where it's from.

Love your chairs! How great that you found them for a great price and didn't have to do a thing to them. I'm jealous :)

I love your chairs, and the way you've added a modern update with the geometric cushions. I have two Louis XV chairs in my master bedroom, and they're precious to me. I don't think I'll ever get tired of them.
Have a lovely day,
~ Wendi ~

I absolutely adore the ghost chairs! They don't quite go with my family and pets, but maybe someday!

I also love the juxtaposition (what a great word!lol!) of your contemporary pillows with the chairs. It brings about a sense of playfulness and whimsy!

A great post explaining the different styles of Louis chairs. I recently received from my mom's, home a pair Louis XVI chairs with a more contemporary straight legs style. I have then in our bedroom to keep them save from grandchildren :)

I am addicted to chairs myself. Why oh why I do not know. What is it about chairs that can be so appealing? I have a Louis XVI and am going to be doing a makeover on it. I really like the finish on your chairs, and I think the fabric is timeless.

Love your chairs! This would be a great post to link up to my Before Blogging party later this month. I always love the look of the Louis Ghost chairs in pictures, but I'd be afraid that my boys would have them covered in a network of scratches in no time. Gorgeous pictures! Thanks for sharing.

I have a chair addiction as well....I love your finds they are perfection! I like the way you added the circle pillow. That chair didn't want to be taken too seriously so the pillow was just the right touch!

This post is wonderful. XV is my favorite. How can you not love one of those fluffy down seat cushions? I can see why you haven't ever changed your chairs. They are perfect. The first time I saw a ghost chair was on Colorsplash with David Bromstad. Loved them but they are a bit pricey. :o) Have a great week girlfriend!

Your chairs are so pretty, they were a great bargain. I have a thing for chairs and lamps too, I always have to make myself walk away from them, otherwise we wouldn't have room to turn around in my little house.

Do let anyone sit in the chairs? They show no wear at all! :)

Thanks for the lesson. I've learned something new. Now I'll be looking at the legs on all Louis chairs.

The Ghost chairs are kinda cool.

Tammy my mom like you loves chairs. We actually have 30 different chairs in our house. Many of them are beautiful. It's just a shame because we don't have enough people to sit in each chair.
